Emergency Lighting

The purpose of emergency lighting is:

To ensure that safety lighting is provided promptly, automatically and for a suitable time, in a specified area when the normal mains power supply to the standard lighting installation fails.

Why is it important you use this standard?

This part of BS 5266 promotes a wider understanding of the different types of emergency lighting systems that can be used and gives guidance on how different systems can be correctly applied to different categories of premises with varied requirements.

It gives recommendations on the factors that need to be considered in the design, installation and wiring of electrical emergency escape lighting systems, to provide the lighting performance needed for safe movement of people if the normal lighting supply fails.

How can the LED Industrial Lighting Company help your business?

At the LED Industrial Lighting Company we offer a design and certification service to ensure your business is able to comply with BS5266-1:2016 and which meets all UK legal requirements.

All emergency lighting systems and luminaires are based on a standalone battery back-up, either within the fitting itself or as part of a wider UPS/generator installation.

What is this standard about?

BS 5266-1 is the first in a series of Codes of Practice on emergency lighting. It gives detailed guidance on the application and practice of emergency escape lighting, with a view to ensuring safety in the event that normal lighting is interrupted. The recommendations have been drawn up to encourage uniformity of application.

Remote Testing & Monitoring – make your
life easier!

The Code of Practice for emergency lighting requires the system to be regularly tested for compliance. There should be adequate facilities for testing and recording the system condition. Typically, this involves manual testing and visual inspection.

It is imperative, that as a UK company, you comply with the UK Guidelines for installation, testing and recording. If the responsible person is found to be negligent of providing the necessary emergency lighting/signage/firefighting equipment they can face huge fines and even be imprisoned.

The LED Industrial Lighting Company provides remote monitoring self-test luminaires and controls, allowing clients to comply with the task of daily, weekly and monthly monitoring of your emergency fittings. This is coupled with an automatic reporting system. Email reports are delivered direct to your laptop.

We have a range of emergency lighting including solutions from LED Exit Signs, LED Bulkheads, LED Twinspots and LED Downlights.

We also offer bespoke emergency lighting systems for projects where a standard application would not be suitable. Your designer/contractor will provide you with all the information you need to ensure you have your building emergency lighting installed to meet all the legal criteria.
